Daniel Eric Rumph II was born July 15, 1983 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Viola (Candy) Owens and Daniel E. Rumph Sr.

Daniel attended Parkway High School until graduating in 2001. Danny then attended Main Central Institute where he worked hard to improve his GPA and his basketball skills. In 2002 Danny was recruited by Dennis Felton of Western Kentucky University along with many other universities. He only went on one visit, to WKU, and he knew that is where he wanted to be. Danny's career as a Hilltopper began. Danny played three years for WKU, and went to the NCAA tournament once (his freshman year). Danny was admired and loved at WKU and at Bowling Green Community. He loved everyone at WKU and Bowling Green Community.

Danny came home May 5, 2005 for a short visit before his team went on a trip to Europe. He went to the local recreation center the evening of May 8th, where he workout with his friends. Danny went into Sudden Cardiac Arrest right after scoring the game winning basket, his friends did not know how to do CPR and there was no AED in the center. Danny was twenty-one years old and was in great shape. Danny died from Hypertrophy Cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart that shuts down when it's under stress.

His foundation was created to bring awareness to Hypertrophy Cardiomyopthy and Sudden Cardiac Arrest. As well as provide FREE screening for heart disease that causes SCA, and to place Automated External Defibrillators into all Recreation Facilities in the tri-state area.

Outside of school, Danny played with Positive Image, Sonny Hill League, and the AAU team. Danny loved working with the young kids at the Daniel E. Rumph II Recreation Center, formerly known as the Mallery Recreation Center.
